Herr's Food Factory~

Tuesday we went up to Herr Foods with my Grandparent's and Uncle Steve, Aunt Jen and Patrick.
We went on a tour~
The tour started off with a video in the theater about the history of Herr's.
~The Herr Foods began in 1946 when 21-year-old James Stauffer Herr bought a small potato chip company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for $1,750. The company grew gradually and soon became a flourishing business and had to keep continually moving to keep up with the demands.

~In 1946 James married Mim.

~Then in September of 1951 Herr's experienced a major disaster! Late one afternoon, on September 5th, a fire broke out in the plant. Although the equipment had been shut down for the day, cooking oil apparently had dropped onto a hot fire brick and burst into flames.

~1952: With help from family, friends and the bank, the Herr's bought 37 acres and built a new 4500 square foot plant. They were back in business!

~In 1958, after careful consideration, Herr's began adding seasoning to the potato chips. The barbecue chip was the first flavored chip the company tried and it's still in production today.~

~ To keep in step with consumer demand, Herr's began producing a number of new products: 1976 Cheese Curls, 1978 Popcorn, 1981 Pretzels, 1983 Corn products, such as corn and tortilla chips, 1984 Onion Rings.

After the video, we went along with our tour guide (Nate): and went into the Pretzel room.
It smelled so good!
After that we went into various chip and popcorn rooms. At the potato chips room we got to eat a chip that was just made. MMMMMMMM it was so delish!
At the end of the tour we all got a bag of regular potato chips~ Very yummy :)
We walked around the factory store. Then off to Olive Garden!

It was so very much fun~

Winter Fun~ Ice Skating~

Happy New Year Everyone~ What has everyone been up to lately?
Well because it's almost 2011, my Papa has been off of work and has been taking us kids ice skating.
The Bomberger's have been letting us use their pond and so we have been going ice skating a lot.
It's been a bunch of fun :)My Uncle Steve and Patrick have came along once or twice. My aunt Jennifer has come these last few times. And Grandpa and Grandma came along Christmas day.

Christmas day I learned how to do cross-overs, but I am still perfecting the skill :)
I think Lincoln is the best skater of us kids, Bethany is doing really well on the ice. She is so cute to watch :) My Papa is so amazing~ I watch him go and then think to myself that I have so MUCH to learn! :) Mom is our best hockey player, (she scored 5 shots in one game)! Abigail is the family goalie.

We might go again sometime this week, but for the most part skating is done for the year! :)

2010 Youth Christmas Banquet~

I have finally got around to getting pix (from FB (thx!)) so I could post about the Christmas Banquet.
The banquet was last Friday at Fontana Hall.
We arrived just in time to get our pic taken in front of a beautiful backdrop:

After the wonderful fare, Uncle Steven talked to us YP ~ asking us "Are You Coachable?"

He did a fantastic job~ I really enjoyed it.
We then played games like: Who's Who and a How Well Do You Know Your Spouse game...Some door prizes were given out~ And also a Helper of the year award to ~David Garret~
It was a very fun filled evening :)

Sanger Picture Time~

Okay, I figured that because I had posted something about the Wallace’s picture taking time…I should make things even, and post about the Sangers picture taking time.....

It all started out when last Sunday morning we decided (on the spur of the moment), to get a “family” Christmas picture taken. (Just us kids though). Mom had made us girls new outfits, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity (which it was)….
We tried three different backgrounds: porch, wall in living room and fireplace. Papa took the pictures…

Well, I guess we might be able to try again for a New Years picture, perhaps?

Turtle Cupcakes (proceed with caution)~

Mmm… seriously delicious! My Mom and I made these cupcakes for the Young Peoples Banquet. We got the recipe off of a blog my Mom frequently visits.
My siblings really enjoyed them…I won’t tell you how many we ate! So we shall see how they rate with the YP, tonight!
Oh and just in case you were wondering, here’s the recipe :)

We used; A Pretzel Crust, Milk Chocolate Cake Mix, Caramel Dip for Apples and Chocolate Buttercream Frosting, Toasted Pecans.

Pretzel Crust:
2 Cups Crushed Pretzels
2/3 Cup Melted Butter
1 Cup Sugar

Mix together and put 1 Tablespoon of crust mixutre into the bottom of 24 Cupcake Liners.

Mix a Betty Crocker Milk Chocolate cake mix and put 1/4 Cup into each liner, covering the Pretzel crust. (you might have a little bit of batter left over).

Bake according to box directions.

Let cool.

I used a Piping bag and round tip.
Fill piping bag with about 1/2 of the container of Apple Dip. Insert tip of bag into cupcake and fill until cupcake starts to "burst" at the top. I was a little chintzy on the filling. I'll put more in next time. (I might try inserting the tip in a couple different places to fill to next time).

Frost with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting and top with Toasted Pecans.

These are SUPER good right after they are made. Enjoy!

IN THE STAND~ FIRST DAY OF RIFLE

Hello Folks,
This morning was the start of rifle season (as most of you know). Some of you rifle hunters may have heard this morning, what might have sounded like a huge herd of deer…(or maybe elephants escaped from the circus?). That was my Dad and I, getting up to our stand…or rather myself :)
The night started off rather uneventfully. I got into six layers of clothing. (You may have noted that I did not start this dialogue with waking up…that comes later). I went into the kitchen and added to my bulk coat, a hat and boots. When we were almost to the hill (in our backyard), I found out that I had not brought any bullets! I ran inside and got them. Gratefully the doors had not been locked!
We then made our way up to the stand. We were quiet...
THEN we got to our stand. Someone had taken off a band that held the ladder in place~ We climbed up and got situated. I dropped a 30 something dollar book from Lamplighter: Prisoners Of the Sea. When we finally settled down I realized (a little to late) that I had forgotten to get my glasses! I wouldn’t be able to see a deer unless it was within, maybe 35-40 yds. ~ Well there was really nothing I could do …so I tried to forget about it, and thought instead of the book… that was on the ground beneath the stand.
~About an hour later~
I am finally awake (for real this time)! I think the weather had something to do with this…
~Around thirty min later~
Waiting for the sun to come warm me up… I talk to papa about his different deer hunting adventures…I wonder if I will ever have any stories half as exciting…sun is coming up over the hill.
~About two hours later~
The sun is really taking its time…We don’t hear any deer…drifting in and out of sleep…
~Around thirty min later~
Enjoying the outdoors…Uncle Eddie calls and says he is going to come over and walk for us…Sun is really helping the temperature…
~Another thirty min later~
Uncle Eddie arrives…get out of the stand…I get my book (undamaged!)…we depart…about a 1/3 of a mile into the brush I realize I don’t have my book! I must have dropped it! Walk back looking for it…found it! …walk towards home …we get home!!!!!
~Awhile later~
I set down to write…

A Family Time

This last Sat. my Grandpa and Grandma Phillips and also the Wallace's. Came down to our house for Thanksgiving. We have had a wonderful time, and I cannot imagine what the rest of today holds! Sat. ~ We stayed up late...past 11:00 p.m. talking and getting reacquainted :) Sun. ~ We went to Church and then came home and had some delicious Mexican food. We played a few fun games of foosball and, or ping-pong. And then did some more talking...Then Church. Mon. ~ Wallace Family picture time....The men went and cut a tree down (wood for the winter!), and us ladies stayed at home and read books and chatted. Tue. ~ Played games and read and did a few odd jobs. Then it was more Wallace Family picture time...(the last ones didn't turn out so well)~! Wen.~ Foosball championship....Seth and Serenity won..! Congrats! Way TO Go~ and more odd jobs and more talking :) Today.~ Cleaning and Cooking! *The rest is yet to come* We are having a really wonderful time! Here are some pictures:

Kittens~!

~Around three weeks ago my cat Peek-a-boo had five kittens.
The first two she had in the barn loft and then she came down to the house and had the rest in the garage! We brought down the two kittens from the loft... And they have all been in the garage ever since :)
Peek-a-boo is delighted with them. This is her 3rd or 2nd litter (I am not sure which). She purrs all the time!
The kittens are starting to go all over the place, they are so fun to watch. Their different personality's are so amazing!

LVC Honors Orchestra

It was all started when my violin teacher Ms. Connie S. told my Mom and I about an orchestra. LVC Honors Orchestra, and asked if I wanted to join. We sent in the application, and one week later I received the music. I practiced the 5 songs for three weeks. Then on Oct. the 29th I went to the collage to practice. And met the other 80-something students (grades 10-12). The next day I went at 10:30 and practiced till lunch, then there was some more practicing then supper and changing for the concert…which was a six o’clock. After the concert, my Grandparents S. , Uncle Steve, Aunt Jennifer and Patrick, my family and Mrs. Dottie Miller (a close family friend) (whose son had composed one of the songs we had played that night). We all went to DQ and had Ice-cream, Sundays and Blizzards. YUMMY! I had a lot of fun :) and would do another orchestra, in the blink of an eye! Some Pix:

Vist to the Bahners~

Yesterday (Sunday) we went on a trip to our Uncle Nathan's and Aunt Sarah's.
~FuN fUn~ The Mellema's were there also... and we had a wonderful time :)
~ We left at 6:30 and were home before 10 o'clock
Us girls took along our instruments, ( but then Abigail ended up playing the piano).
Brother Andrew led the singing and Uncle Nathan did a little "Sunday School Lesson" (on cows).
Papa gave a sermon about"Putting on the Whole Armor" (he did a very good job, if I do say so myself).
After the service we had a wonderful lunch of Lasagna, (homemade) Bread, (homemade)Apple-sauce and salad. For Dessert we had Strawberry Poke `em Cake, Chocolate Cake and a Apple -Blueberry Pie, YUMMY!
We played a little at the forts in the woods (that the kids had made), and walked around looking at the farm.
We had a very relaxing time "J ~

Ice Skating Fun~

An while ago we went ice~skating for free.
We received a news-paper clipping from an Sister in our Church....to try out the ice for free and meet the instructors~ Homeschoolers only. Well we decided to go, and just ice skate if nothing else :)We invited Faith B. to come along and so she came with us ''J
We arrived on the time secluded and no one else was there! Needless to say we were very surprised~
We waited a little bit and then a car came in. We were very excited! A man came out of the car and went in. We followed. Mom said we would like to try out the ice, that we were homeschoolers...etc! The guy looked a little confused but then said that will be 20...something dollars.
Mom was shocked! She said but this clipping said such-and-such??!!!!?!! She handed it to him and he looked at it (it did not have a date...only the day Thur. and the time!) and he said "well this was last week but, I will honer this any-way"....We were rather embarrassed! Haha!
We got our skates from the man and went out on the ice for 2 hrs. (the time allowed). We went around the edge a little bit till we got steady. Then we skated to our hearts content! There was no one else there and we had a fabulous time :)
