...Trees...

I think I can "officially" say that spring is here! Outside the sun is shining, birds are singing, and all the trees and flowers are coming back to life! It’s the most wonderful time of year :)

Geneva amidst some newly blooming flowers

We’ve been busy cutting up trees, cleaning up our yard and doing other various things outside. We had an expert “tree-cutter-downer" come and take down 10 tall trees and then we felled 2 on our own. Each evening we have been cutting, rolling, splitting and stacking, it really builds up your muscles! (It also lets you know which areas you're lacking in muscle!)

Tonight, with many helping hands we felled another tree. It was old and starting to rot and die, so down it came!

How to Fell a Tree:

(WARNING: Do not try this at home!- This can only be done by a qualified professional!)- haha

Things needed:
many hands
trees A & B
rope
voice
chainsaw
quad
eyes
treestand
gloves
chain
come-along
1. Climb up "tree A" and at 30ft secure a  [nylon] rope
2.  Attach said rope to "tree B" with come-along and proceed to pull taunt
3. Cut a watermelon wedge in base of tree.

4. Watch with dog
5. *Most important*... call out  "Timber" [VERY LOUDLY]
6. Cut tree into logs
7. Use quad to take logs down to the splitter

Now you can say that you know how to fell a tree (and you can always refer back to this post if you forget any steps)!

Well, that’s the latest here at our logging company...

Here is a funny joke that will put a smile on your face:
John needed to cut down around 20 trees, but he didn't have a chainsaw, so he went to a hardware store.
"I want a saw that will cut down six trees in an hour," he tells the assistant, who sells him a top of the line chainsaw.
The next day, John comes back "I want a refund," he says. "It took me all day to cut 1 tree down."Concerned and eager to locate the problem, the assistant starts up the chainsaw.
"What's that noise?" asked John…

Too funny, Zoe. ;)

Work like that usually ends up being as much fun as it is work, doesn't it?

I am all too familiar with tree-felling. It does really build your muscles. And you sleep pretty good that night too.
